Eating Together for a Better Future

Join the Meal and support the march of the landless in India. On September 15 Barcelona Consensus is organizing the Meal in Barcelona in support of Jan Satyagraha – let’s share an Indian, vegan, local and organic Meal for a better future.

The idea of the Meal is to bring together people around one table in different places of the world and to share a meal. Every year the Meal has a different motto, this year the objectives are:

Defend food sovereignty and the right of indigenous peoples’ access to natural resources, land, water, forests and seeds

Support the rural world and recognize its vital importance

Raising funds to support Jan Satyagraha

The idea of the The Meal comes from the Swiss Organisation Association Un repas pour notre Avenir and the event will take place contemporarily also in Geneva, Paris, Strasbourg, London, Castellon, Kinshasa, Lomé, Kabul and many more cities around the world.

Barcelona Consensus sees this as a wonderful opportunity to support Jan Satyagraha, one of the two ACT! 2012.

Jan Satyagraha is the biggest non-violent march the world has ever seen: Following the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi’s model of civil disobedience, the organization stands – and walks – for the rights of the poorest of members of Indian society: indigenous communities, Nomadic groups, Muslim women, Sexual minorities, Single women, Fisher folks, Slum inhabitants, Hawkers, Differently abled groups, Displaced, Destitute children, etc. 100’000 poor and landless people from India will come together and walk the 350 kilometers from Gwalior (near the Taj Mahal) to New Delhi starting October 2nd in order to keep the governmnt accountable for its promises of land reforms and to ask for more respect for the poor.

The Menu, a selection of spicy, sweet and exotic dishes from India have been chosen – besides the obvious link to the marchers of Jan Satyagraha – because the Indian cuisine naturally offers many vegetarian dishes, a great part of Indians are vegetarians due to their beliefs. These dishes allow us to use the locally grown vegetables to create new tastes for our guests.

The event will take place on September 15th. At nova- innovació social – Plaça Catalunya 9, 4° – 2.

Before the meal we will show the documentary Janadesh illustrating the struggle of the landless and poor in India. During the day you can also inform yourself about the upcoming events and campaigns of nova – innovació social, find more information here.

The indicative price for the meal is 10 Euros (all earnings will be forwarded to Ekta Parishad, the organizers of Jan Satyagraha)

Seats are limited. If you’d like to come please sign up per email to: info@barcelonaconsensus.org. You will then receive a invitation with all details.
